Devdari Waterfall : Plan Your Visit
Discover the natural beauty of Devdari Waterfall, nestled within the scenic landscapes of Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary near Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh.
About Devdari Waterfall
Devdari is a waterfall that pours off a rock ledge into a deep, forested gorge in the hills of southern Chandauli. Sheer walls of layered sandstone rise on both sides, and the pool below turns from clear green in winter to a roaring brown torrent in the monsoon.
It lies inside Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected forest since 1957 that once sheltered Asiatic lions brought from Gir. Today the cliffs around the falls are home to a colony of vultures, and the sanctuary records around 150 species of birds.
- Protected Sanctuary since 1957
- ~150 Bird Species Incl. cliff vultures
- Sandstone Gorge Kaimur hills
- Best flow: July to October, when the falls are at full power, and the rocks are most slippery.
- A true day trip: about 70 km from Varanasi, with no hotel at the falls.
The classic view is from the gorge rim, looking down on the falls. Stay behind railings and well back from unfenced edges.
Location: Where is Devdari Waterfall?

The sanctuary lies roughly 70 km from Varanasi, and most visitors approach through the small town of Chakia. That is a regional estimate, not a door-to-waterfall distance, so check live map routing on the day.

- Restaurants Family Friendly
- Near the falls there may only be a few snack vendors, and they don't always open. Carry a packed meal.
- Town restaurants in Chandauli and on the highway are a detour, not waterfall-side, so plan your meal stop on the drive.
- Leave no trace: take your waste back with you, and check whether food is allowed in the sanctuary zone you visit.
- Carry some cash: card and UPI payments may not work at small stalls where mobile signal is weak.
Drinking water: carry enough for the whole day, as bottled water may not be on sale near the falls.
Things to Do

- Nature Walks Forest Trails
- Wildlife Spotting In the Sanctuary
Do
Watch from designated viewpoints, birdwatch from permitted areas, wear shoes with good grip and carry your rubbish back out.
Don't
No cliff-edge selfies, diving, wading in strong currents, littering, feeding wildlife, loud music or off-trail entry.
Photography tip: the gorge is deep, so a wide-angle lens helps. Keep cameras and phones in a dry bag near the spray.
The falls are strongest in the monsoon, which also brings slippery rocks, sudden water rises and possible access restrictions.
